Hi all I feel a bit agrieved to say the least, I saw my rhuemy on monday just gone, hoping he would put my mind at rest regarding the lump on my face! Which he did in a way, as I thought it was bone but turned out to be a gland (slight relief) but iv had it at least 6wks, he informed me there could be a stone in it!!!(iv not ate any) which could require "surgery" but he was going to give me a big dose of antibiotics and hopefully it would go! he said not to take mtx for that week to give it a chance but carry on with sulf... I was happy cos my bloods have been the best since april and I was "out of the woods" yeah  untill I get home take a tablet(that will make me feel yucky) only to realise he has given me co-amoxiclav which has amoxicillin in ( im allergic to this since I was 18yrs) so phone doctor tell secetary what has happened she tells me that the doctor wont get involved with consultant??!! so ring rhuemy who has now left the building and secatary wont be in till wednesday so they take my number. Now not sure what to do, so dont have mtx cos hopefully will have antibiotics by wed!! or so I thought, had a missed call as I was at work but left no message, begining to feel poorly and achey now bad headache to boot, so not gone to work today(cant face it), I rang to make appointment at doctors but couldnt get in today after they ask what is the prob and I reply "got a lump on my face" feeling sorry for myself now, but have appointment tomoz at 9.20 fingers crossed they will give me something else! Im not a forcefull person and dont like to make a fuss but wish that I was stronger sometimes as feel let down by proffesionalls that are suppose to help or is it just me? sad  coz xx

Is there no way you can get in touch with your rheummy today? The hospital could surely get him a message. Come to that I would have thought that your gp could get in touch with him!
But hopefully you will get sorted at your appointment today - good luck.

Hi Coz, I agree with Anthea - your GP should get in touch with your rheumy, as it will will be in your notes that you are allergic to amoxicillin. Hope you feel better soon. Kathleen x

Hi Coz,
Not surprised to hear you're feeling aggrieved, and rightly so. Someone must be covering for your consultant and I would suggest calling the secretary to ask to speak to the on- call rheumatologist or specialist registrar.
Can't help thinking your rheumy should have known that you're allergic to penicillin as it should be on your medical file, or should have asked you before prescribing it.

Thanks everyone for replys someone else said that to me too, Barbara, But I didnt think to ask as assumed he would have known about allergy, and my Rhuemmy is so loud and bubbly its hard to get a word in, I always come away thinking I wanted to ask so much but loose my thread!! I know I should write things down!!! grrrr at myself, glad to have you lot or I would be compleatly in the dark   coz xx

Hello Hu n Thats not good,they are suppose always ask do you have any allergies.lol so sorry u so poorly,gp may well just change it to another antibioctic an fax or call rheumy to let him know for you wrong drug given and the reason u not taken it. glad u realsied and didnt actaully take it u take care lv inky07 cuddly cats make my world seem so much more fun

Just want to say I agree with the above suggestions. As for your GP not getting involved with the rheummy - if I were you I would ask 1) Why and 2) If I can't contact my rheummy and have an infection, do you watch me die? I did this once at my old GP and they certainly moved then! I KNOW we shouldn't have to push, but this is YOUR body and sometimes you just have to.

It really is disgraceful that your GP will not get involved, it's his job to do so!

Thanks Jean&Doreen, im going to tell doc tomoz all about it, I think the receptionist should be put straight,after all they are not the qaulified ones,and dont like to discuss all the in's and outs with them! and hopefully will get it sorted out, and I will be asking those questions, lets hope I dont loose my resolve by the morning Thanks for the support and encouragment. coz xx

Hello Coz, I hope that you get sorted tomorrow, I know how you feel when you say it's hard for you to be forcefull I often come away from an appointment thinking what I should have said but in this case I think you know that you have to have the antibiotics so try and hold your ground. Hi All, well I got the right perscription at last  but was not my doctor I saw! I tryed to get some answers but she didnt seem too concerned just said that consulton wouldnt necersarly know!!! and when asked about dotors not getting involved with consulton the reply was "depends what it is"  I asked if I should take my mtx this week as missed last week? she said if consution said not to take then dont?? but as I explained it was only for that week cos of taking the antibiotics! so did'nt make much sense to me!!! While I was there she noticed that I was to have swine flu and normal flu jab, so she rang nurse and told me to go wait and they would do it now I was not prepared for that, but I had them and have to go back in jan to have secound swine flu! Well im off to have a sleep now as was up at 3.30 to take my daughter to stanstead, as she was going on school trip to the berlin christmas markets, luckly her Dad is picking her up at 11.15 tonight  good night everyone coz xx P.S thanks Jean for willing me to be strong, it helped

Hi Cz,
I'm glad you got the right prescription, but the next time you got to the hospital check that there is a red sticker on your notes and that it states you are allergic to penicillin.

Hi Glad gp gave you right antibioctics,sort of helpful. u rest up u must be exhasuted good you had jabs done aswell. take care lv inky07 cuddly cats make my world seem so much more fun

Oh i do hope you start to feel better now. WHY oh why do we always have to fight for these things when we feel the least like having to do it? YES I'VE CHANGED, PAIN DOES THAT TO PEOPLE.

Thank goodness you have got the right prescription now but it's totally ridiculous. Your GP's should be shot for not advising you properly on when or when not to take your mtx. It's such an important issue. Have you got any other surgeries around? If so, it wouldn't do any harm to ring them and ask a few pertinent questions; like is there anyone who has a specal interest in muscular skeletal diseases? Your consultant sounds a bit of a pratt too. Maybe a change of hositals? Just really feel you deserve the very best treatment and you are not getting it. I had to change consultants and GP's and it was the best thing I could have done.

Hi coz Thankfully you got your medication sorted out. Its a pity you are not being supported though. I have has this trouble since diagnoses 20 months ago and has led to high anxieties. thankfully this seems to be sorting out - fingers crossed. Take care
